Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will both play their opening game of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, April 1.
DC’s strength lies in their excellent batting department, where they have every single position in the lineup covered by hard-hitting players. The team from the capital city also possesses a strong bowling unit, with in-form Lungi Ngidi leading their fast bowling contingent.
LSG, on the other hand, have a top order which change the complexion of the game on its own. The likes of Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, and Rishabh Pant would get the opposition bowlers nervous regardless of the conditions in which the game is being played.
Both sides come into the new season with strong squads consisting of some of the best players in T20 cricket. When these players go head-to-head against one another on the field, fans can expect a great contest between bat and ball.
Here are 3 player battles for LSG vs DC, Match 5 of IPL 2026:
3. Aiden Markram vs Lungi Ngidi

In a battle between two modern-day South African greats, Aiden Markram holds the advantage against his compatriot. The two have played against each other twice in the SA20, where the right-handed batter has scored 37 runs from just 23 balls, hence striking at 160.86 without getting dismissed.
Lungi Ngidi is, however, coming into the IPL on the back of an excellent T20 World Cup, where he took 12 wickets at an economy rate of just 7.19.
2. Rishabh Pant vs Kuldeep Yadav

This player battle between two India teammates is currently being dominated by Kuldeep Yadav. In five innings, the left-arm spinner has dismissed Rishabh Pant on three separate occasions, including getting the wicket-keeper batter out for a duck last season in Visakhapatnam.
Pant has scored just 23 runs from 25 balls against Kuldeep. The LSG captain will be eyeing to better that record to score as many runs as possible in the middle overs for his side.
1. KL Rahul vs Mohammed Shami

Both KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami have had equal successes against one another in the IPL. While the right-arm seamer has dismissed his international teammate twice in five innings, Rahul has also gone on to score 43 runs at a strike-rate of 122.85.
Fans can expect Shami vs Rahul to take place in the opening stages of the game, where the 35-year-old fast seamer is at his best. Shami is excellent with the new ball and can trouble Rahul with his swing and control.
