The game between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) caused some controversy online when a personnel wearing LSG gear was seen talking on a mobile phone.

During the first over of the LSG innings, Josh Inglis scored a four off the bowling of Akeal Hosein. After the ball reached the boundary, the cameras picked up on a gentleman talking on a mobile phone. Using mobile phones or any other form of electronic devices in the Player and Match Officials Area (PMOA) is strictly prohibited under BCCI’s protocols. The PMOA places include dressing rooms, TV umpire room, match referee’s room, dugout and other places within the ground.

It is, therefore, worth mentioning that even if the personnel caught on camera was an LSG staff member, he was not present in any of the designated PMOA areas, meaning he did not breach any of the BCCI protocols. It is, however, worth mentioning that it is difficult to know the exact location of where the person in question was sitting and seen using his mobile phone. It could very well be in the VIP area for fans to enjoy the game.

The 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a plethora of controversies, with the usage of mobile phones in the dugout being one of the biggest. Earlier this season, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team manager, Romi Bhinder, was seen using his mobile phone whilst sitting in the team’s dugout alongside Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, right next to him, during their game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati.

Bhinder was later fined INR 1 lakh after admitting to the offence and offering an unconditional apology. RR manager, who has been part of the franchise since its inception in 2008, later declared his medical issues as an explanation for the offence, which was duly accepted by the BCCI.

CSK secured a five-wicket victory over LSG in the game in question. The five-time champions chased down 204 with just four balls to spare in a nervy finish to the game at Chepauk.
