Gujarat Titans (GT) will take on the five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a crucial clash in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Thurdsay, May 21, at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. This match is a must-win for the Super Kings, who are fighting to keep their playoff qualification hopes alive.
In their previous meeting this season on April 26 at Chepauk, GT completely dominated CSK. Powered by a lethal new-ball spell from Kagiso Rabada (3/25) and a match-winning 87 off 46 balls by Sai Sudharsan, the Titans comfortably chased down CSK’s 158 with more than three overs to spare. A win here for GT means that they will have a golden opportunity to finish in the top-2 in points table. Hence, this promises to be a crucial encounter.
Here are the key player battles in GT vs SRH, Match 56 of IPL 2026:
1) Urvil Patel vs Rashid Khan

Urvil Patel has been sensational for the Chennai-based franchise since his inclusion in the playing XI. The right-hander has impressed with his ultra-aggressive gameplay, and is a dangerous prospect. He can do real damage if remains at the crease for a longer period of time and his 65 run knock in just 23 balls against LSG is an example of it.
But he will have Rashid Khan standing in front of him. The veteran leg-spinner has found his rhythm back in IPL 2026 so far, picking up 16 wickets so far. The battle between two T20 specialists will be an intriguing one.
2) Shubman Gill vs Mukesh Choudhary

The GT captain Shubman Gill has led his side from the front with the bat in IPL 2026 so far, scoring 552 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 160.46. The right-hander will be the batter to watch out for, for GT.
But he will have to negate the Mukesh Choudhary challenge with the new ball. The left-arm pacer is known for his sharp inswinging deliveries, and that can pose a threat to Gill. Choudhary is having a decent IPL 2026 so far, and would want to give his side an early edge by dismissing Gill cheaply.
3) Sanju Samson vs Kagiso Rabada

This battle between two giants of world cricket, Sanju Samson and Kagiso Rabada promises fireworks. Sanju Samson has been CSK’s best batter throughout IPL 2026, scoring 477 runs at a strike rate of 166.20. The right-hander is crucial in CSK’s batting line-up.
Rabada, on the other hand, has been one of the best bowlers of this season. The South African has picked up 21 wickets in just 13 matches. In GT’s last encounter against CSK, Rabada had dismissed Samson, and would want to repeat the same this time.
