Chennai Super Kings (CSK) square off against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, May 10.
The Men in Yellow have been on a roll following a slow start to the season, where they lost their first three matches. With five wins and five defeats from 10 games, the Super Kings are stationed at No. 6 on the points table. They need at least three wins from their last four matches to make it to the playoffs.
Lucknow Super Giants, on the other hand, are hanging by a thread as far as their playoff aspirations are concerned. They managed to end their six-match losing run in the last game after defeating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a high-scoring thriller.
Here are the top player battles to watch out for from Match 53:
Nicholas Pooran vs Noor Ahmad

Nicholas Pooran has finally found form. The southpaw has registered scores of 63 (21) and 38 (23) in the last two games against the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Pooran will look to take on the CSK spinners in the middle overs.
Noor Ahmad, on the other hand, has been brilliant through the middle of the innings. He hasn’t been as consistent as he was last season. However, he has played crucial roles in some of the games that Chennai have won in IPL 2026.
Mitchell Marsh vs Akeal Hosein

Mitchell Marsh had been struggling throughout the season with the bat, but he finally lived up to his talent in the last game, scoring 111 off 56 balls against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He will look to get his team off to another flying start on Sunday.
Akeal Hosein has been magnificent inside the power play. He has varied his pace and changed his lines expertly. Hosein has picked up seven wickets in five matches at an average of 18.29 and an economy rate of 7.25.
Sanju Samson vs Mohammed Shami

Sanju Samson has played 10 innings in the IPL and scored 402 runs at an average of 57.43 and a strike rate of 167.50. He has already smashed two centuries to go with one fifty. Samson will have a key role to play on Sunday against a fantastic bowling lineup.
Mohammed Shami has bowled some exhilarating spells, especially with the new ball. If he can get the ball to move around, his battle with Samson would be fascinating to watch. Shami has picked up nine wickets in 10 matches so far.
