IPL 2026: CSK file complaint against DJ over remarks and song controversy in RCB clash at Chinnaswamy

IPL 2026: CSK file complaint against DJ over remarks and song controversy in RCB clash at Chinnaswamy

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have lodged a formal complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India following an alleged incident during their Indian Premier League 2026 clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5.

According to a report by The Indian Express, CSK raised concerns after the stadium DJ played the track ‘Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney’ during the match. The song, composed by musician Gana Appu, has gone viral on social media and is often used in meme culture, sometimes reinforcing stereotypes associated with South Indian identity. The franchise reportedly found the timing and context of the song’s usage inappropriate and disrespectful.

A senior IPL official confirmed that the league’s governing council has received the complaint and is currently reviewing the matter. The incident has drawn attention due to the sensitivity surrounding regional representation and fan culture within the tournament.

The song itself had previously sparked controversy when wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma was seen singing it last year, which led to backlash from CSK supporters. At the time, the Chennai-based franchise had stepped in to de-escalate the situation, urging fans not to target opposition players over such matters.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan also confirmed that the franchise had formally raised the issue with the BCCI. He added that the complaint was not limited to the song alone but also included concerns over certain remarks allegedly directed at Chennai players during the match.

Viswanathan further noted that no similar incidents had occurred after the earlier episode involving Jitesh, until the April 5 fixture. The franchise now awaits appropriate action from the authorities as the matter remains under investigation.

“The DJs are usually there to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering that, we have written to the BCCI to look into it,” Kasi said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“After that incident, there hadn’t been any repeat. The DJ isn’t supposed to make comments on opposition players. Moreover, we are fortunate to have a lovely fanbase that supports us in large numbers,” he added.

It wasn’t just the song that drew objection from CSK. The franchise also reportedly took exception to certain remarks made by the stadium DJ following the dismissals of their players. While engaging the crowd is a routine part of a DJ’s role during matches, CSK felt that targeting opposition players crossed a line and was inappropriate.

Chennai had ended up losing that encounter against RCB. The five-time champions had a difficult start to their IPL 2026 campaign, suffering three consecutive defeats. However, they managed to recover with two back-to-back wins at home. CSK are now set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Meanwhile, RCB have emerged as one of the top-performing sides this season. They currently sit at the top of the points table after defeating Lucknow Super Giants at home. RCB have registered four wins in five matches so far, with their only defeat coming against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
