IPL 2025: Virat Kohli cops nasty blow on hand while misfielding ball for boundary

Virat Kohli sustained a harsh strike on his hand in an attempt to prevent a slog-sweep from Sai Sudharsan during Match 14 of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans on Wednesday, April 2. A quicker delivery by Krunal Pandya was mercilessly hit towards Kohli in the deep.

Kohli, who was stationed at deep midwicket, attempted to shield the ball from going to the boundary on the half-volley. However, the ball skid off the turf and ended up being deflected to the fence off Kohli’s fingers. The former RCB skipper was down on his knees and looked in considerable pain while being attended to by the physios.

There was quite an extended pause in play before proceedings resumed. Kohli bravely soldiered on after receiving medical treatment. After the completion of the 12th over in which a total of 17 runs were amassed, GT were placed comfortably at 105/1.

Earlier in the evening, the Shubman Gill-led GT won the toss and sent the hosts in to bat first. Kohli departed for a seven-run score. Coming in in place of Kagiso Rabada, Arshad Khan dismissed the ace RCB batter on the fourth delivery of the second over. A short-of-a-length delivery was pulled to Prasidh at deep backward square leg.

GT ended up securing victory by eight wickets with 13 deliveries to spare. Wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler and Impact Player, Sherfane Rutherford, finished the game in style. The two ended up unbeaten on 73* off 39 deliveries and 30* off 18 deliveries, respectively. This was RCB’s first loss in IPL 2025, after winning their first two games against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, respectively.
