IPL 2025: League continuation hangs by thread as “things are not okay”

IPL 2025: League continuation hangs by thread as "things are not okay"

The match 58 of IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala, was called off due to technical failure owing to malfunctioning of one of the floodlights at the venue. Shortly following the incident, media outlets released that the region was also affected by blackout amid ongoing tensions at the Indo-Pak border.

However, they did not falter the smooth conduct of the match, as officially announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The organizers took a stance that no security concerns forced the game to be called off, but floodlights failure did so. Now, board secretary Devajit Saikia has told that despite things being under control, IPL has decided to escalate the player and other match officials to a safer place. BCCI is currently monitoring the situation, and any decision taken, will be in accordance with national interests, according to Saikia.

“Keeping everything in mind, we have decided to call off today’s match. Things are not ok as of now and that’s why we called off today’s match not just Dharamshala but from neighbouring country they’re escalating the things Players spectators and support staffs safety is our priority we will do everything what is in the best interest of nations. We are monitoring the situation and Will take call accordingly,” he was quoted as saying as per India Today.

IPL on as of now: IPL Chairman

Meanwhile, IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal, who was present at the venue and even signalled the spectators to empty the ground after it had been called off, has said that they haven’t received any directive from the government. In such scenario, all the board and the stakeholders can do is take a decision only after any official release is made by the government.

“We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven’t received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind,” Dhumal said according to ESPNcricinfo.
