Match no. 5 of IPL 2024 between the Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians features an unfamiliar name for many — Naman Dhir, who has been handed his IPL debut.

The 24-year-old player is a hard-hitting and explosive batter who represents Punjab in the domestic circuit. As far as his first-class stats are concerned, he has scored 574 runs in 20 innings, with the highest score of 134 against Gujarat, followed by 131 against Saurashtra; both of which came during the 2023 edition of the Ranji Trophy, and a vital 86 against Chandigarh in the 2024 season of the same tournament.

As far as white-ball cricket goes, the Haryana-born is a sure shot finisher who comes in down the order, and is well-reputed for closing out games, much like the way he performed during the 2023 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The aggressive batter had an exceptional Sher-E-Punjab T20 Cup 2023, amassing 466 runs at a staggering strike rate of 192.56, which included blasting 30 sixes.

Dhir also featured in the DY Patil T20 Cup 2024 for Reliance 1, for which fellow MI teammates Hardik Pandya, Piyush Chawla, Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, and Vishnu Vinod were playing as well. Playing among big names, Dhir made a name for himself by scoring a half-century in a match against Jain Irrigation, an innings which entailed eight fours and a solitary maximum.

The cricketer also bowls right-arm off-spin and has taken eight wickets in 11 innings at an average of 27.25. The dynamic all-rounder will be becoming a part of an esteemed middle-order at MI, known for its illustrious history of orchestrating victories from dire situations.

RR get off the mark in their opening fixture against LSG

Earlier on a double-header Sunday, Rajasthan Royals hosted Lucknow Supergiants in match no. 3 of IPL 2024 in Jaipur. Courtesy of a splendid knock by RR’s skipper Sanju Samson (82 off 52), eventually earning the Player of the Match award, along with support by Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and the bowlers, Rajasthan opened their account with a 20-run win against the KL Rahul-led side.
