The rise of Manimaran Siddharth in the Indian Premier League 2024 has been amazing to watch. The slow left-arm bowler was able to scalp the wicket of Virat Kohli in the encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants.

Till now in his three overs, Siddharth has bowled 3 overs and taken a wicket. KL Rahul was key in bringing the bowler in the powerplay and that paid off well. Since most of the readers don’t know much about the spinner, let’s deep dive into more details about Manimaran Siddharth.

The 25-year-old has been part of the Indian Premier League before as he was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in previous editions of the tournament. However, he found himself unlucky to not find a place in the playing eleven for the teams during that time.

During the Indian Premier League 2024 Auction in Dubai, the left-arm spinner was able to generate a bidding war between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He was ultimately sold for a whopping INR 2.4 Crore and proved to be a player to watch out for in the Lucknow squad this season.

“I was wondering if I would get picked”: Manimaran Siddharth

The left-arm spinner’s prowess grew with consistent performances for Tamil Nadu in the domestic circuit. His performances in the Tamil Nadu Premier League were also scintillating to watch and were one of the key reasons why the Lucknow franchise spent a big sum on him.

After being signed by the Lucknow Super Giants, the left-arm orthodox bowler spoke to India Today in December 2023. He said, “I was nervous. I felt nervous the previous night. It’s a big thing to find your name on the auction list. After that, I was wondering if I would get picked or not because I wanted to make it to the IPL this time. Last two years I wasn’t there. I told myself that this time I had to make it. Only when you get success, do you get motivation. For me, to move forward, I felt this was the right opportunity. I am glad it has happened.”
