In a pretty one-sided encounter at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) emerged victorious against Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs in the 62nd match of the IPL 2024 on May 12.

Batting first, RCB got off to a solid start with Virat Kohli scoring a quickfire 27 off 13 balls, supported by Faf du Plessis’s six. However, both batters fell in quick succession, leaving RCB at 36/2 in the fourth over. Will Jacks played a pivotal role in stabilizing the innings with a composed knock of 41 runs off 29 deliveries. He found an able partner in Rajat Patidar, who contributed a crucial 52 off 32 balls to propel RCB’s innings forward.

Cameron Green played a vital cameo towards the end, remaining unbeaten on 32 off 24 balls, providing the late flourish to RCB’s innings. Mahipal Lomror and Karn Sharma chipped in with valuable contributions of 13 and six runs respectively. However, DC’s bowlers fought back admirably, with Rasikh Salam and Khaleel Ahmed leading the charge by picking up two wickets each. Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mukesh Kumar also contributed with a wicket apiece to keep RCB’s scoring in check.

In response to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s challenging total of 187/9, Delhi Capitals (DC) struggled to build partnerships and fell short of the target, finishing their innings at 140 all out in 19.1 overs. DC’s chase got off to a shaky start as they lost early wickets, with David Warner departing for just one run in the first over. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel also fell quickly, leaving DC reeling at 24/3 within the first three overs.

Shai Hope tried to stabilise the innings with a valiant effort, scoring 29 runs off 23 balls but lacked support from the other end as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. Axar Patel played a brilliant innings, scoring a defiant 57 runs off 39 deliveries to keep DC’s hopes alive. However, his dismissal in the 16th over dealt a major blow to DC’s chances of victory.

Despite some lower-order resistance, DC’s batting lineup failed to handle the pressure exerted by RCB’s bowlers. Lockie Ferguson and Yash Dayal were the pick of the bowlers for RCB, claiming two and three wickets respectively and restricting DC’s scoring rate.
