After an early setback with Ishan Kishan’s dismissal, MI found stability through Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav’s 81-run partnership. Yadav later paired with Tilak Varma to notch up 49 more runs for the third wicket. Despite PBKS snatching key wickets to stay competitive, timely contributions from Tim David and Hardik Pandya propelled MI’s total to 192 runs.

PBKS’ chase began on a disastrous note as their revamped opening duo faltered. Both Sam Curran and Prabhsimran Singh fell quickly, followed by Rilie Russow and Liam Livingstone, who managed just a solitary run apiece. Harpreet Singh Bhatia, promoted in the order, could only muster 13 runs, while Jitesh Sharma continued his batting struggles, scoring a mere nine.

With PBKS reeling at 77/6, their chances seemed bleak. However, a remarkable innings from Ashutosh Sharma, scoring a blistering 61 off just 28 balls, revived their hopes. He showcased his prowess with some innovative shots, including the famed helicopter pull and sweeping Jasprit Bumrah for a maximum. His onslaught on Akash Madhwal put MI on the back foot momentarily.

Yet, Ashutosh’s departure, caught in the deep with PBKS still 25 runs shy of the target, halted their resurgence. Despite his heroics, the lower order couldn’t finish the job. Bumrah once again proved pivotal for MI, striking early and later breaking a threatening partnership by dismissing Shashank Singh, who was supporting Ashutosh effectively. PBKS fell short of nine runs but Ashutosh’s valiant effort provided a glimmer of hope amidst the despair. On the other hand, SKY’s 78 off 53 and Bumrah’s spell were the major difference in a tightly fought game.
