The last six weeks of the Indian Premier League have flown by and we are now in the final few weeks of the season. Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders who set the early pace in the season are the best two sides of the league so far. Pat Cummins and his Sunrisers Hyderabad are in the running for a place in the playoffs too have played some amazing cricket this year.

One of the biggest disappointments has been the form of two former champion sides. Mumbai Indians who have won the title on 5 occasions are currently 9th in the table having won just 4 games so far. IPL 2022 winners, Gujarat Titans too have endured a very bad season as they are bottom of the table despite possessing a slew of T20 greats in their line-up.

Here are the captain’s ratings after the 6th week of IPL 2024:

10. Shubman Gill – Gujarat Titans -2/10

It has not been an easy initiation to the captaincy for Shubman Gill in the IPL. The 24-year-old was soundly beaten by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last game. One of the biggest problems that GT has faced is the face of Shubman Gill which has taken a turn for the worse this season. Three losses in the last three games have seen GT slide to the bottom of the table and need a few wins to get them out of the wooden spoon spot.

9. Hardik Pandya – Mumbai Indians -2/10

The problems that have arisen in Mumbai Indians have been well documented. The entire captaincy saga in the run-up to the new season has affected the five-time winners. Mumbai Indians might have won their last game versus SRH will not hide the fact that they had lost 4 games before that. The captaincy of Hardik Pandya has been questioned time and again, especially after a few debated decisions during the season.

8. KL Rahul – Lucknow Super Giants – 3/10

After Lucknow Super Giants beat Chennai Super Kings twice this season, KL Rahul’s side was touted as one of the favourites to make it to the playoffs. Two losses in the last three games have seen LSG take a huge hit as far as reaching the top four is concerned. KL Rahul’s entire stock a beating when his side lost to KKR by 98 runs after conceding over 200 runs at home for the very first time.

7. Sanju Samson – Rajasthan Royals – 3/10

Surprisingly, Sanju Samson and Co. are facing a slump right towards the season’s finish line. The last two have seen the men from Jaipur lose after conceding over 200 runs with the ball. Rajasthan Royals lost to Delhi Capitals by 20 runs on Tuesday despite the best efforts with the bat by their skipper who had scored 86 runs.

6. Sam Curran – Punjab Kings – 4/10

Punjab Kings began the season badly once again but seemed to find a second win at the halfway stage of the season. Sam Curran’s leadership saw the Punjab Kings come in within touching distance of the top four spots in the table. After beating CSK away from home, Punjab Kings were humbled in their return fixture last week in Dharamshala.

5. Pat Cummins – Sunrisers Hyderabad – 4/10

The IPL 2016 winners have seen their form take a tumble in the last few games. Two losses from the last three matches have seen the Sunrisers Hyderabad start getting jittery as far as their place in the top four spots are concerned. The loss to Mumbai Indians with a huge margin would not help issues with just matches left to play.

4. Ruturaj Gaikwad – Chennai Super Kings – 5/10

Defending IPL winners Ruturaj Gaikwad and his Chennai Super Kings are currently in third place in the table. The five-time winners are not guaranteed to make it to the playoffs on current form which has seen them just win twice in five games. CSK found themselves coming back into form with a much-needed win over Punjab Kings last weekend.

3. Rishabh Pant – Delhi Capitals – 6/10

The story of Delhi Capitals during the Indian Premier League 2024 has been one of revival and grit. Rishabh Pant and his side have 12 points in what is now a crowded mid-table in the IPL 2024 season. Rishabh Pant has led his side well and played attacking cricket. His decision to bowl Kuldeep Yadav in the 18th over versus RR worked well and was a huge master stroke to help his team win the game.

2. Faf Du Plessis – Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 7/10

After spending most of the season at the bottom of the table, the way RCB have come out and played cricket over the last few weeks has been terrific. Faf Du Plessis laid a brutal assault on the Titans bowling during their last game which saw RCB score 92 runs from the first six overs. With 3 matches left, RCB need to win all their games and hope a few other results go their way to make it to the playoffs.

1. Shreyas Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders -8/10

One of the best captains of the previous week has been Shreyas Iyer of Kolkata Knight Riders. The 29-year-old has been composed and astute in the way he has led the side and also shown great thinking on the field. His first success came against Mumbai Indians where KKR won by 24 runs. This was followed by a huge win against LSG away from home by 98 runs. All these performances have seen KKR head to the top of the table and nearly book themselves a place in the playoffs.
