IPL 2024 Playoffs Qualification Scenarios for Each Team after RR vs PBKS, Match 65

As the IPL 2024 league stage enters its final stage, the battle for the last two playoff spots involves five teams. Determining which teams will qualify is complex, with each team having different requirements. Some need big wins, while some rely on other results. There are also teams who need a victory and favourable outcomes elsewhere. Here’s how the scenario stands after Punjab beat Rajasthan in the 65th game.

Regardless of the result in KKR’s recent match against Rajasthan Royals, they’re set for Qualifier 1 since only Rajasthan Royals have no chance to match their 19 points from 13 games. Thus, KKR’s spot in the top-tier clash is secured, regardless of the match’s outcome.

2. Rajasthan Royals

Delhi Capitals’ victory over Lucknow Super Giants sealed their group-stage journey, granting Rajasthan Royals a playoff berth. Yet, their entry into Qualifier 1 hangs on the outcomes of their remaining one game and the performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last two matches. Currently, Rajasthan Royals possess 16 points from 13 games.

3. Chennai Super Kings

If Chennai Super Kings emerge victorious in their last match, they’ll reach 16 points. Thanks to their strong Net Run Rate (NRR), this tally should secure a playoff spot, unless Sunrisers Hyderabad also reach 16 points. However, if CSK falter against RCB, they’ll rely on other teams’ outcomes to advance.

If Sunrisers Hyderabad secure victories in their final two matches, they’ll tally 18 points, guaranteeing a playoff berth. They could even aim for Qualifier 1 if Rajasthan falters in their last game. Winning one of their last two games should still see them through unless Chennai Super Kings outshine RCB. Presently, they hold 14 points from 12 games.

5. Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals clinched a 19-run win over LSG in their final group-stage encounter, keeping their hopes alive for a top-four slot. However, their slim chances hinge on Sunrisers Hyderabad losing both remaining matches, given DC’s significantly low Net Run Rate. With 14 points from 14 games, the path is challenging.

6. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

RCB must not only secure a victory against CSK but also narrow the NRR margin by chasing the target swiftly or claiming an 18-run win if they bat first. Their success hinges on LSG not winning their final match. With 12 points from 13 games, RCB’s task is challenging.

7. Lucknow Super Giants

Following a 19-run loss to DC, LSG’s playoff hopes are virtually quashed due to their dismal Net Run Rate. Even a win in their final group-stage clash against Mumbai Indians won’t suffice, as they’ll depend heavily on outcomes elsewhere. LSG’s chances of IPL playoff qualification are exceedingly remote with 12 points in 13 games.

Gujarat Titans saw their playoff hopes dashed as rain disrupted their crucial match against KKR, marking their exit from the league. With 10 points from 13 games, GT now aim to disrupt SRH’s aspirations in their upcoming clash, despite being out of contention themselves.

9. Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings became the third team to exit IPL 2024, having played 13 matches and accumulated ten points. Despite their match against RR being a dead rubber, they outclassed Rajasthan, climbing out of the 10th position.

10. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians faced early elimination from IPL 2024, failing to bounce back after a shaky start. With eight points from 13 games, their last match presents an opportunity to dash LSG’s hopes completely, ending their season on a high note.
