Mumbai Indians (MI)and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lock horns at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 17. The hosts will be coming into the game after losing their previous clash to Kolkata Knight Riders. Led by Hardik Pandya, the side finds itself at the bottom of the table with 08 points in 13 matches.
The Mumbai-based franchise will be very displeased with how they have performed in this edition. They were the first team to be officially eliminated in IPL 2024. The five-time champions only managed to win four out of their 13 matches.
In the batting department, Tilak Varma is the sole other Mumbai batter to have scored runs consistently. The left-hand batter has scored 416 runs from 13 games at an average of 41.60 and a strike rate of 149.64. Their former skipper Rohit Sharma had a good start to the season, but his performances have been below average in the last few games.
Opener Ishan Kishan hasn’t enjoyed much success this season and struggled to do justice to his position. Star batter Suryakumar Yadav has played a few crucial knocks and given MI fans something to cheer for. The middle-order batter has scored 345 runs from 10 games at an average of 38.33 and a strike rate of 169.95.
Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been the standout performer for MI this season. Currently, he is the second-highest wicket-taker of the season with 20 wickets in 13 matches. His economy rate is just 6.48. No other bowler has been able to consistently perform and give Bumrah the support he would have liked.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran has played some fantastic knocks, including two half-centuries. In 13 matches, he has scored 424 runs at an average of 60.57 and has a strike rate of 168.92.
Yash Thakur and Naveen-ul-Haq have bowled well in patches, picking up 11 wickets from 10 matches and 12 wickets from nine matches. The talented young leg spinner hasn’t looked at his usual best for Lucknow. Krunal Pandya has managed only five wickets from 13 matches but has been relatively economical, conceding runs at 7.79 per over.
Wankhede Stadium Pitch Report:
The pitch at Wankhede is known for its batting-friendly nature, especially during T20 games. The surface is typically flat, providing a good amount of bounce and carry, allowing batters to play their strokes freely. Additionally, the dew factor in evening games can play a significant role, aiding the team batting second in their pursuit of a chase.
However, there have been occasions where the pitch has offered some assistance to the bowlers, particularly spinners, as the game progresses. Despite its reputation of being a batter’s paradise, the surface has witnessed instances where the pitch has provided opportunities for bowlers, keeping the game evenly balanced and ensuring an exciting contest between bat and ball.
Probable Playing XI
