23 March 2024 will mark the first double header of this year’s IPL. In the second game of the day, both Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) will kick off their campaign in this year’s IPL at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. 

The two teams last met in the 47th match of the league stage in IPL 2023 where KKR won by just five runs as Varun Chakravarthy held his nerve to defend nine runs off the last over.

The two teams have had a long-standing rivalry and are always constantly engaged in a slew of exciting matches that promise to be a showstopper, especially this one.

Shreyas Iyer vs Umran Malik:

These two players have faced each other in just two innings, but Umran Malik has dismissed Iyer in both of these matches. Iyer only averages 8 at a meagre strike rate of 106.66 against Umran Malik. This is also a key battle to shut down Shreyas Iyer who can take the game away from the spinners. 

X-Factors for KKR vs SRH

Kolkata Knight Riders:

Phil Salt who is currently placed at No.2 in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings is the one player who KKR will have expectations from. His very good recent form in this format might just be what KKR need to turn their recent misfortune around. He also provides a wicketkeeping option that will be key for KKR in this season. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Pat Cummins is coming off of a very good 2023 both as a player and a captain. As the second most expensive player in the IPL auction, he will bring a much-needed recharge to SRH’s out-of-form pace attack and maybe as captain lift them up from the last-place finish in 2023.
