IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants 2nd innings highlights against CSK in Match 39

KL Rahul was left shaking his head after his decision to bowl first backfired. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his second IPL ton to help Chennai Super Kings score a massive 210/4 from their 20 overs.

Shivam Dube was in a destructive mood with the bat as he scored 66 runs from just 27 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes. This knock came at the right time as the Indian selectors are set to meet to pick the squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Matt Henry was the most economical bowler for the visitors, with 1/28 from his four overs. Mohsin Khan and Yash Thakur too picked a wicket each but were smashed for plenty of runs as Shivam Dube went after both the LSG pacers.

Powerplay: LSG- 45/2 (6 overs)

With a target of 211 to win, Quinton de Kock was out early when he dragged the ball back onto his stumps for a duck. KL Rahul then gave an easy catch to Ruturaj Gaikwad as Mustafizur Rahman picked his first wicket of the day. 

LSG: 50 runs off 6.5 overs 

Chennai Super Kings bowlers tightened the screws to make sure that LSG batters didn’t get off the leash. Devdutt Padikkal and Marcus Stoinis found it tough as the boundaries dried up for a few overs.

Marcus Stoinis: Half-century off 26 balls 

After watching Gaikwad and Dube take their bowlers to the cleaners, Marcus Stoinis flexed his muscles. The Australian star was in a punishing mood as he got to his 9th fifty in the IPL.  

First Strategic Timeout: Lucknow Super Giants- 78/2 from 9 overs

The LSG team management would have hoped for Quinton De Kock and KL Rahul to replicate their success from the last game. After the two batters fell early it was Devdutt Padikkal and Marcus Stoinis who saw them through to the first time-out without further setbacks.

LSG: 100 runs from 12.2 overs

Devdutt Padikkal continued with his woeful for this season as he was bowled by Matheesha Pathirana for 13 after struggling for 19 balls. Marcus Stoinis kept going as he was the only player who was seen putting up a fight with the bat.

Lucknow Super Giants: 150 runs from 15.3 overs

Shardul Thakur was hit for 16 runs from his first three balls of the 16th over. It was the Caribbean stumper-batter Nicholas Pooran who took a liking to the Indian star as the 150 runs came up on the board.

Second Strategic Timeout: LSG- 157/3 from 16 overs

The momentum of the game changed when Pooran began to go after opposition bowlers. The dew on the field also started to play a part as the ball was difficult to grip. Marcus Stoinis kept one end tight as he kept the score ticking with few boundaries.  

Marcus Stoinis: 100 off 56 balls

While LSG kept losing wickets at one end, Marcus Stoinis put his head down and did the star turn. The Australian scored his first ever century in the IPL to keep his team in the hunt for a famous win at the Chepauk Stadium.

End of the match: Lucknow Super Giants: 213/4 from 19.3 overs

The equation in the final came down to 17 runs needed from six balls with Mustafizur bowling. Stoinis, however, hit the first two balls for plenty as the Australian got the job done with three balls to spare.
