With the conclusion of the game between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC), the first week of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has come to an end. There have been many players who have shined with the bat and with the ball till now. Likewise, some of the players have not been able to do well after the first week of the tournament. While the players would be hoping to return to the form, the teams would be hoping to win matches with the help of these players.

Here are the overseas players who have not been up to the mark in the first week of the IPL 2024.

1. Openers – Jos Buttler and Quinton De Kock

Jos Buttler perished early in the game against LSG. He managed to score only 11 runs in the 9 balls against the visiting side, which did not help the cause of RR. In the same match, Quinton De Kock failed as an opener. The Southpaw scored just 4 runs in his stay in the middle.

Buttler was undone by Naveen-ul-Haq and De Kock was undone by New Zealand’s Trent Boult in the very first over of the match. As this is a team, the two players would be helpful with the added responsibilities. While Jos Buttler will lead the side, De Kock will be the wicketkeeper.

2. Middle order – Daryl Mitchell, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs

In the middle order, the team will have Daryl Mitchell at number 4. Given the reputation he carried coming to the tournament, the Kiwi star has not been up to the mark with the bat, scoring 22(18) and 24(20) in the two matches so far against RCB and GT respectively. In addition to him, the team will have David Miller and Tristan Stubbs.

Miller scored 12(11) in his first game against MI and followed it up with 21(16) against CSK while chasing a target of 207 runs. On the other hand, Stubbs could not make an impact in the match against PBKS with the bat. The young batter perished after scoring just 5 runs in 7 balls.

3. All-Rounders – Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, and Marco Jansen

The team has Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, and Marco Jansen as the All-Rounders. Green has not been up to the mark, registering scores of 18(22) and 3(5) with the bat so far. While Green did claim 2/27 against CSK, he has not been good with the bat. Marcus Stoinis has failed in the only game he has played till now.

The Australian played against RR and came to bat when 49 runs were needed in the last 23 balls. He managed to score just 3 runs in 4 balls. Marco Jansen bowled three overs and conceded 40 runs against KKR. With the bat, he scored just a run and remained not out. He was not good with the ball.

4. Mitchell Starc, Kwena Maphaka, Alzarri Joseph, and Maheesh Theekshana (Impact substitute)

The team will have Mitchell Starc who takes the new ball and returns to bowl at the death. He played the match against SRH and conceded 53 runs in his 4 overs after scoring 6(3) with the bat. Kwena Maphaka had a forgettable outing against SRH where he registered figures of 0/66 in his 4 overs, the worst for a debutant in the history of the IPL.

Alzarri Joseph has been poor in both matches till now. The West Indian bowled for 0/38 in his 3.4 overs against CSK and followed up with 1/43 against PBKS in Bengaluru. Maheesh Theekshana will be an impact player with his spin bowling. He registered 0/36 on a slow track in Chennai against RCB.
