IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals’ strongest predicted playing XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Match 35

The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is entering its second half as most teams have played seven league matches. Delhi Capitals (DC) will be up for their eighth match of the season (Match 35) and they will have to play against the formidable Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SRH are flying high with some tremendous batting displays. Their last encounter was against a hapless Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and they bettered their record for the highest team total (287/7). However, in the upcoming match, the 2016 champions will be against a team that has inflicted the only all-out below 100 on the opposition this season.

Delhi bowled out Gujarat Titans (GT) for just 89 runs in their last match. With a six-wicket win, they are currently sixth in the points table. Rishabh Pant will hope his bowlers put up similar heroics against a power-packed batting unit at their home ground Arun Jaitley Stadium, on Saturday, April 20.

Here’s the probable playing XI for DC versus SRH IPL 2024 clash:

Openers- Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser-McGurk

Delhi Capitals removed a struggling David Warner from their line-up and handed the much-awaited IPL debut to an aggressive Jake Fraser-McGurk in the opening slot. The young Australian came into the limelight by breaking Chris Gayle’s record of a 30-ball T20 hundred to claim the fastest hundred in professional cricket. He has only played two games this season and has already indicated what his intentions are.

Prithvi Shaw will bat alongside Fraser-McGurk to provide a powerful start for the team. Shaw seems to be in decent form recently, scoring 66 against MI and 32 against LSG. Known for his devastating batting in the powerplay, the right-hander will aim to produce such exploits against SRH.

Middle order: Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs

Shai Hope is yet to impress the management but his presence in the middle order will make the team look like they have someone to stabilize the innings. DC skipper Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs have been performing well consistently. The DC captain scored a quick-fire 41 in the win over LSG and won the Player of the Match award against GT for his impressive show behind the stumps.

Meanwhile, Stubbs has become a key cog in the DC line-up. They may have lost the match against MI, but Stubbs’ (71 off 25) knock will not go unnoticed. He has been making impactful cameos with the bat. Besides, the South African also proved he can come in handy with the ball by chipping in with two wickets against GT.

All-rounders: Axar Patel, Sumit Kumar

Axar Patel has not brought out his batting best this season but his bowling efficiency has been as usual. The left-arm spinner is known for providing crucial breakthroughs and putting brakes on the opposition’s scoring rate. Axar took one wicket at an economy of just 4.20 in the last match against GT.

Sumit Kumar has played quite a few matches so far but he is yet to make an impact in both the departments. The fast-bowling all-rounder will need to contribute well in the coming matches to cement his place in the XI.

Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed

Kuldeep Yadav refined his bowling at DC and continues to deliver the goods for them with some serious spin magic. His four-over spell is a game-changer and DC will rely on those 24 balls against SRH’s strong line-up. The left-arm wrist spinner was named Player of the Match against LSG for grabbing three wickets at an economy of just 5.

Veteran India pacer Ishant Sharma will lead DC’s pace attack. Ishant and Khaleel Ahmed will be given the powerplay bowling duties while Mukesh Kumar will be relied upon in the death overs. Notably, all three performed well in the last match against GT. Ishant picked up two wickets in his two overs, left-arm pacer Khaleel took one wicket for 18 runs and Mukesh grabbed three wickets for 14 runs in his 2.3 overs.

DC’s predicted XI against SRH:

Prithvi Shaw, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant (C/Wk), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Sumit Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed
