Gujarat Titans scored a massive 231/2 from their 20 overs on the back of the heroics by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. The two openers scored centuries to put the home team in a strong position at the end of the first innings.

Shubman Gill scored his fourth IPL ton as he took the attack to the CSK bowlers. The 24-year-old seemed to make a statement to the selectors after missing out on selection for the T20 World Cup. Sai Sudharsan who has been the best Titans batter this year scored his maiden ton and was pivotal in helping the home team dominate the CSK bowlers.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 and first strategic time-out (Mandatory – 43/3)

Umesh Yadav and Sandeep Warrier and a brilliant piece of fielding by David Miller had CSK struggling at 10 for 3 in pursuit of the 232 runs needed to win, Moeen Ali and Daryl Mitchell made sure CSK went into the first time-out without further loss of wickets.

Chennai Super Kings: 50 runs off 6.2 overs

Daryl Mitchell hit Sandeep Warrier for a huge six after the resumption of play. The two batters had been batting well mixing caution with aggression. Ruturaj Gaikwad will hope the two batters can continue in the same vein and keep CSK in the hunt for a win.

Half-Century: Daryl Mitchell off 27 balls

The Kiwi star batted with a lot of grit and kept the boundaries coming despite Chennai Super Kings being in trouble early. With a single off Rashid Khan the Kiwi star reached his 2nd IPL fifty.

Chennai Super Kings: 100 runs from 10.3 overs

Noor Ahmad was welcome to the crease with three successive sixes to take the total past 100 for the defending champions. The England star who was quiet for most of the season with the bat batted like a man possessed to stage a fight back.

Chennai Super Kings: 150 runs from 15.2 overs

After the fall of Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali, it was Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja who kept the scoreboard ticking. Both the batters hit some huge blows and also ran well between the wickets to keep the pressure on the titans.

Chennai Super Kings: Second Strategic time-out (162/5 from 16 overs)

Kartik Tyagi bowling the 16th over gave away 19 runs as the Chennai Super Kings mounted a comeback. With Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja batting and the power of MS Dhoni left the defending champions were looking to have a huge say in the final four overs.

End of the Match: Chennai Super Kings -196/8 all out from 20 overs

Chennai Super Kings who needed a win to keep their 4th place secure could only look back and rue their decision to field first. Nothing went right for the defending champions as the Gujarat Titans batted and bowled with purpose to pull of this huge win.
