Chennai Super Kings: 50 runs from 5.5 overs

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 51/2)

Lucknow Super Giants bowlers did well to keep the free scoring CSK batters under check. The early fall of Ruturaj Gaikwad in particular would have been a welcome relief for the home team. Ravindra Jadeja struck a few boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Chennai Super Kings: First Strategic Time-out (68/3 from 8.1 overs)

Krunal Pandya struck in the first ball of the 9th over when he castled Ajinkya Rahane. He veteran CSK batter went for an ugly swipe across the line and was bowled for 36 runs off 24 balls.

Chennai Super Kings – 100 runs from 14.2 overs

Second Strategic Timeout (105/5 from 15 overs)

With wicket falling at regular intervals, the LSG bowlers made sure that the opposition batters were unable to score at a quick pace. Moeen Ali was batting 7 alongside the 35-year-old who was batting on 40 when the second time-out was taken.

Ravindra Jadeja: Half-century off 34 balls

The decision to promote Ravindra Jadeja to number four paid off well for CSK. The veteran star got to his 3rd IPL half-century when he hit a six off Mohsin Khan. Deepak Hooda who was standing near the boundary made a mess of the catch as the ball was parried over the ropes.

CSK: 150 runs from 18.2 overs

Moeen Ali got the much-needed momentum as he smashed Ravi Bishnoi for three successive sixes. MS Dhoni came out to bat and hit Mohsin Khan for a four and a six to take the score past 150.

End of the Innings: Chennai Super Kings – 176/6 from 20 overs.

Chennai Super Kings seemed to be struggling to get past 140 at one stage. Moeen Ali and then MS Dhoni turned the tide to give the defending champions a decent push with a more than respectable total to bowl at. The former CSK skipped was not out on 28 runs from 9 balls to give CSK yet another strong finish.
