IPL 2024: Best overseas XI of fourth week

The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed the domination of some overseas players such as Travis Head, Gerald Coetzee, Mustafizur Rahman, and Sunil Narine. During the fourth week, some foreign players continued their brilliant work and succeeded in justifying their roles in their respective teams.

With the ongoing cricketing action in the tournament’s fifth week, it’s essential to know some overseas names who performed superbly in the fourth week. Talking more, let’s have a look at the 11-member squad consisting of foreign players who looked fabulous in the last week of the competition.

1. Travis Head

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) recorded the highest team total of 287 in the league, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnawamy Stadium. SRH’s Australian stalwart Travis Head played an exceptional knock of 102-run knock off just 41 deliveries. The Aussie hit his maiden IPL ton in just 39 deliveries and became the fastest centurion for the Orange Army. His unprecedented innings also got him the Player of the Match award in Hyderabad’s convincing 25-run win.

2. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler looked magnificent with his bat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens. The star England wicketkeeper-batter smashed his seventh IPL century and took his team home. He notched up an unbeaten 107 off 60 deliveries with 15 boundaries (nine fours and six maximums) and became the recipient of the Player of the Match award. 

3. Heinrich Klaasen (WK)

Heinrich Klaasen exuded confidence with his bat against RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Batting at number three, he played a rapid knock of 67 off 31 with two fours and seven maximums. His innings added insult to RCB’s injury as the Orange Army posted a mammoth total of 287 runs on the board.

4. Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram justified his role against RCB in Bengaluru. Following the great start from both Head and Abhishek Sharma, he stepped up and supported Klaasen. Along with his compatriot, he stitched a 66-run partnership. The right-hander returned to the pavilion with his unbeaten 32 off just 17. 

5. Tristan Stubbs

Tristan Stubbs looked confident as an all-rounder for DC in the fourth week, making vital contributions to his team’s victories against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Against the Super Giants, he took his side home with his unbeaten 15 off nine. In their next game, the Capitals hammered GT by six wickets, and this time, the youngster took the crucial scalps of Abhinav Manohar and Shahrukh Khan.

6. Tim David

Tim David played his role efficiently for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). In both contests, he came to bat at number six and played swift innings of 13 (5) against CSK and 14 (7) against Punjab. 

7. Rovman Powell

Rovman Powell displayed his batting brilliance against KKR at the Eden Gardens. While following a humongous target of 224, when RR were six down at a score of 121 in 12.2 overs, Powell displayed his spunky side and produced some superb strokes from his bat. Along with Buttler, he built a 57-run partnership off just 28 balls. In his 26-run innings off 13 balls, he scored four boundaries (one four and three sixes).

8. Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins led SRH from the front against RCB in Bengaluru. Defending a score of 287 runs, Cummins grabbed 3/43 in his four-over spell. His victims were Faf du Plessis, Saurav Chauhan, and Mahipal Lomror. 

9. Gerald Coetzee

Gerald Coetzee looked confident with the ball for MI against CSK and PBKS. In Mumbai’s nine-run win, he assisted his senior colleague Jasprit Bumrah and chipped in with 3/32 figures in his four-over spell.

10. Matheesha Pathirana

CSK defended a score of 206 runs against their arch-rivals MI at the illustrious Wankhede Stadium and emerged victorious by 20 runs. In their comfortable triumph, Chennai’s speedster Matheesha Pathirana played the role of wrecker-in-chief and took a four-wicket haul. In his four-over spell, he got rid of the hosts’ key batters Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Romario Shepherd. 

11. Keshav Maharaj

Rajasthan Royals (RR) handed PBKS a three-wicket defeat in the fourth week and Keshav Maharaj played an instrumental role in the former’s victory. The left-arm spinner delivered 2/23 figures in his four overs, getting the better of Jonny Bairstow and Sam Curran.
