IPL 2024: Best Overseas XI of fifth week

The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction witnessed the domination of overseas players as illustrious names such as Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Daryl Mitchell, and Alzarri Joseph received massive prices and became the talk of the town. However, after five weeks of the marquee tournament, it’s witnessed that players who didn’t get enormous prices have looked stellar in their roles.  

In the tournament’s fifth week, most of the games were high-scoring, and in these contests, some foreign players also showcased their brilliance. After witnessing the cricketing action in those seven days, let’s talk about the best overseas XI that performed extraordinarily in the week.

Here is the best overseas XI of the fifth week:

1. Travis Head

Travis Head again stepped up for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the fifth week of the tournament. As an opener, the left-hander delivered a fierce start to his side and did his job efficiently. His 89 off just 32 played a vital role in taking SRH to 266 runs in their 20-over quota.

2. Phil Salt (WK)

Phil Salt continued his excellent form against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Eden Gardens, smashing a rapid 48 off just 14. His swift knock instilled confidence in his colleagues Shreyas Iyer and Ramandeep Singh, who produced impactful innings from their bats.

3.  Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran did his job efficiently against CSK in Lucknow and Chennai. In both games, he looked confident and helped his side get the better of the Men in Yellow. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, he supported in-form Marcus Stoinis at the crease and played a quick knock of 34 off just 15.

4. Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis stunned Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium with his extraordinary innings of 124 off 63. Following a humongous target of 211, Lucknow lost their openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul early but Stoinis held his nerves in the crunch situation and took his side home. 

5. Cameron Green

Cameron Green put up decent shows with the ball for RCB against KKR and SRH. Against the Sunrisers in Hyderabad, Bengaluru clinched a 35-run win after losing six games in a row. In this victory, the 24-year-old chipped in with an unbeaten 37-run knock off 20 deliveries and 2/12 in two overs.

6. Tristan Stubbs

Against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi held their nerves while defending a score of 224 and won by four runs. Tristan Stubbs played a crucial role in the hosts’ victory as he took GT’s bowling attack to the cleaners in the final overs of the innings. Batting at number six, the 23-year-old faced only seven deliveries and smashed 26 runs with three fours and two maximums.

7. Andre Russell

KKR veteran Andre Russell looked impactful with the ball against RCB at the Eden Gardens. The pacer splurged 25 runs and took three wickets in his three-over spell. His victims were Will Jacks, Rajat Patidar, and Dinesh Karthik, who were batting fiercely in the contest.

8. Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan exuded confidence with both bat and ball in the tournament’s fifth week. The contest between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and GT ended in the latter’s favour and the star Afghanistan spinner delivered a thrifty spell to his side. Bowling his four-over spell, Rashid leaked only 15 runs and removed Sam Curran from the crease. 

9. Trent Boult

Trent Boult continued his brilliant form in the competition’s fifth week. Against Mumbai in Jaipur, the New Zealander got rid of dangerous Rohit Sharma in the first over of the game and delivered the first breakthrough to his side. The speedster later removed Nehal Wadhera from the crease. The Kiwi veteran concluded his four-over spell with 2/32 figures and looked exceptional in his role.

10. Matt Henry

On Chennai’s batting-friendly pitch, LSG paceman Matt Henry displayed his spunk and bowled an amazing spell against CSK. In the first over of the game, he got the better of Ajinkya Rahane and gave a remarkable start to his team with the ball. The 32-year-old ended his spell with 1/28 figures.

11. Noor Ahmad

Noor Ahmad displayed his bowling brilliance against GT in Mohali. Bowling four overs, he gave away only 20 runs and got the prized scalps of Rilee Rossouw and Liam Livingstone. The 19-year-old’s exceptional spell restricted Punjab to a low score of 142.
