Mumbai Indians were the wooden spoon team in IPL 2024, their second instance in three seasons. There is a lot to introspect as a franchise after not-so-good performances in the last few seasons. Known for their insane ability to win cups till 2020, MI has fallen under the radar in the last few seasons. In IPL 2024, their bowling performances with some average batting led to their downfall.

The fact that MI had some of the most talented players in the world with a mix of experience and still failed to qualify is surprising. They made a lot of changes to their side every now and then. It seemed like the morale of the players was not great. Ahead of the mega auction, they have a lot to think about. Some of the players who deserved to get more chances ended up playing less than they should have.

Here are the MI players who were underutilized in IPL 2024 –

Mohammad Nabi

Mohammad Nabi played half a season for MI. Being one of the best all-rounders in the world, certainly the most experienced one, the Afghanistan player was underused by MI. He got to bowl mostly in the Powerplay overs and batted at number 8 more often than not. It was certainly not his natural position. Nabi could score 35 runs and take two wickets for MI in the IPL 2024.

Nehal Wadhera was one of the finds of the season in the IPL 2024. Along with Tilak Varma, he came of age and helped MI to qualify for the playoffs last year despite not being a good side on paper. But in the IPL 2024, he got to play just six matches in which he was not that bad. His knocks were often impactful and came amid collapses. Stats will not justify how good he was as a batter in the season though.

Dewald Brevis was a starter for MI in the first game of the season. Despite doing well, he did not get enough backing from the management. The right-handed batter played three matches and scored 69 runs for the side. Youngsters like him who can score runs at a brisk rate must be backed. But MI management failed to get its team combination right and sacrificed Brevis in the process.
