IPL 2024: 3 Changes Chennai Super Kings should make to get back to winning ways

It was yet another game which saw high scores as two centuries were scored by batters in what was a great game of cricket. Marcus Stoinis was the man of the moment as his unbeaten 124 seized the initiative and helped LSG register their second successive win over Chennai Super Kings.

Batting first Chennai Super Kings posted a huge 210-run score on the board. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the best batter for the home side as he was not out on 108 runs. Shivam Dube swung his blade around to score 66 runs which came off a mere 27 balls.

The normally tight bowling from Chennai Super Kings seemed to buckle under pressure once Marcus Stoinis opened his shoulders. The veteran Australian star kept his cool as he mounted a calculated assault on the CSK bowlers to take his team home to a huge win.

Here are the three changes Chennai Super Kings must bring about ahead of their next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad

3. Need complete overhaul in fielding approach

Just like the last game at the Ekana Stadium, the Chennai Super Kings fielding was a huge letdown. Deepak Chahar was guilty on a few occasions of gifting easy boundaries to the LSG batters in the final few overs of the game.

It has been a shocking display on the field from CSK in the last few games. The runs saved in the field could have come in handy as the target was a huge one. Despite having two gun bowlers in their team the CSK’s attempts on the field in the final few overs was abysmal.

2. Need to stop over-dependence on Matheesha Pathirana

The game against LSG showed one of the biggest shortcomings of the CSK bowlers. If the threat of Matheesha Pathirana is nullified, the entire bowling unit looks clueless and cannot find wickets.

Mustafizur Rahman, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, and Tushar Deshpande seemed lost with the ball in hand. It was also surprising that none of the other pacers had any impact on the game despite the scoreboard pressure being on the opposition.

1. Play an extra spinner at home

With the impact player rule pretty much helping the Indian players, CSK should look at playing an extra spinner at home. Prashant Solanki or Ajay Mandal can be used as the two players have decent records at home.

Shardul Thakur hasn’t been in the greatest of forms in this season of the IPL. The move to introduce him as the impact player was baffling as there was enough purchase in the track for the slower bowlers if exploited well.
