The Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League 2023 witnessed a clash between four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Gujarat Titans. While the Hardik Pandya-led side were the favourites to win the game, the hosts performed brilliantly and put up a show to remember, thereby clinching the first spot in the summit clash.
In the batting front, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway top scored with 60 and 40 respectively, while all five bowlers managed to pick up at least one wicket which put curtains on Gujarat’s innings. On the bowling front, Ravindra Jadeja was the most economical bowler as he picked up two wickets while giving away just 18 runs in his four over spell, at an economy of 4.50.
In the first innings too, he contributed with the bat scoring 22 runs off 16 deliveries at a point when the wicket had been acting weird, making it difficult for the batters. For his composed innings towards the end, his bowling spell and his activeness on the field, Jadeja was rightfully given the Most Valuable Player of the Match award.
The all-rounder shared a picture of him receiving the award and captioned it in a hilarious manner, saying:
“Upstox knows but..some fans don’t 🤣🤣”
His post came with reference to the fans who had been cheering for his dismissal throughout all the games this year, so as to get a glimpse of skipper MS Dhoni. Jadeja has been vocal about the fact as, during one of the post match presentations, he said that the fans cheer louder when he is dismissed, or they want him to be dismissed so that Dhoni walks in with the bat.
