India are all set to face off against Ireland in the T20I series opener at The Village, in Dublin. The excitement surges as Jasprit Bumrah makes his long-awaited return and dons the captaincy mantle for a young Indian squad. Among some notable faces, fresh faces like Rinku Singh and Yashaswi Jaiswal add excitement to the new T20I Indian side.
The Indian cricket team recently suffered a surprising T20I series defeat against the West Indies, which led to heavy criticism from fans and analysts. As a result, India is determined to step up their game and improve upon their disappointing performance from the previous tour. During their last visit to Ireland in 2022, India managed to secure a convincing victory in the two-match T20 series, winning both matches and claiming a 2-0 series win.
Speaking of the hosts, Paul Stirling will lead the Irish side, supported by the new players in the form of Fionn Hand and Gareth Delany. Speaking of the in-form batter of the home side, Harry Tector has been in sublime touch with the bat and has bailed his side out of trouble when it mattered most on several occasions in the past year. As the action unfolds, all eyes will be glued to Bumrah’s captaincy and Stirling’s fiery batting.
Ireland has been performing very well in the T20 format lately, winning four out of the five matches they played in the ICC World Cup Europe Qualifiers. However, their performance against Test-playing nations has left much to be desired. Despite this, Ireland is equipped with a nearly full-strength squad for this series and is determined to put up a strong fight.
Pitch and conditions
The Village, Dublin’s pitch is a paradise for the batters as 440 runs were scored in the last T20I match played here. There will be good pace and consistent bounce in the wicket, which might eventually make it easier for batters. As expected, the temperature is going to be around 17 degrees during the match. Hence, plenty of fireworks can be expected in the upcoming first T20I of the series.
