India became the first team in cricket history to register 200 wins in T20 Internationals, including Super Over wins, when they defeated Japan by two runs in a rain-shortened five-over match at Sano International Cricket Ground on September 22, 2026.

The match, part of the Suzuki Cup 2026, was also the first senior men’s T20I meeting between India and Japan. India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. India posted 32 for 4 in their five overs, and Japan fell just short in their chase, finishing on 30 for 3. It was the fourth occasion India have won a T20I by exactly two runs.

How did India’s T20I win tally build up over the years?

India’s journey to 200 T20I wins began with a six-wicket victory over South Africa in Johannesburg in 2006, which stands as their first win in the format. The road to each subsequent landmark tells a story of growing consistency and an accelerating pace of victories.

India reached their 50th T20I win against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2017 by seven wickets, a milestone that took 83 matches in total. The 100th win came against West Indies in Kolkata in 2022 by eight runs, achieved in 72 additional matches after the 50th. India then reached their 150th win against Australia in Gros Islet in 2024 by 24 runs, requiring 70 more matches after the 100th.

Notably, the final stretch from win number 151 to 200 was the fastest of all, taking only 66 matches. Each successive block of 50 wins has required fewer matches than the one before it, underlining how India have become progressively more clinical in converting opportunities into victories across all conditions and opposition levels.
