India Women are hosting Sri Lanka Women for the fourth T20I of the ongoing series at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, as the encounter went underway on Sunday, December 28. The Indians came into the contest without the likes of star batter Jemimah Rodrigues, whereas, Kranti Goud too missed out.
Toss Update
The toss was won by the Sri Lankan team, as Chamari Athapaththu called it correctly at the coin flip. They opted to bowl first, citing that they might find it easier to chase as the dew plays its part in the second innings. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, on the other hand, said that despite losing the toss, she doesn’t mind batting first, since it is something that the Women in Blue wanted to do anyway.
Jemimah Rodrigues gets replaced by Harleen Deol; Arundhati Reddy comes back
Harmanpreet confirmed that Jemimah was ill, due to which, she wasn’t able to participate in the ongoing contest. Her illness caused the hosts to make a forced change as Harleen Deol replaced the Mumbai batter. Moreover, the side also re-introduced Arundhati Reddy into the Playing XI after resting Kranti Goud. On the contrary, the Lankan Lionesses also made a couple of changes with Malki Madara and Inoka Ranaweera rested in place of, Kawya Kavindi and Rashmika Sewwandi.
What did the captains say?
Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka Women captain:
We’ll bowl first. We batted first in the last three matches. Chasing will be a little bit easier with the dew coming in. We have to play our best cricket. 140 will be a good score to chase. We have made two changes, Inoka and Malki Madara are rested today. Kawya Kavindi and Rashmika Sewwandi come in.
Harmanpreet Kaur, India Women captain:
We were looking to bat today. Jemimah Rodrigues is not playing because of illness. Kranti is rested. Harleen is back, Arundhati is back. this is an ideal series for us where we can test all the players and give them a right platform. I’m really happy everyone is coming up and giving their best. In this series, we are batting first for the first time, so I’m not going to put any target in mind today. Hopefully we’ll put up a good total of the board.
