West Indies were at the helm of criticism following their disappointing whitewash against India in the recently-concluded two-match series. The Indians found it easy to bag comfortable wins in both the matches, while the visitors had only phases of positive approach to the game. Meanwhile, their head coach Daren Sammy has expressed his gratitude and respect for BCCI and India counterpart Gautam Gambhir.

Sammy thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India for hosting the West Indies side in Ahmedabad and New Delhi for the two games. He also mentioned the learnings from the series loss, but also pitched in the name of Gambhir, who was seen sharing his words of wisdom with the Caribbean players at the end of the second Test. Sammy promised that Cricket West Indies will want to improve as a Test-playing nation.

“As we leave India, I’d like to thank BCCI for having us here and being a great host. Plenty lessons and learnings from this trip for my staff and players that we can apply both on and off the field. Special thanks to Gautam Gambhir for taking time after the test match to address my team with some heartfelt words. CWI will continue to find ways for us to improve and be better as a test playing nation in spite of all our different challenges. Till next year, next stop Bangladesh,” Sammy wrote on his official X handle (formerly Twitter).

It is worth mentioning that the West Indies are yet to win a single match in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle 2025-27. They first faced a home clean sweep at the hands of Australia, followed by the India tour, aggregating to five losses in as many games. Their next challenge will be against the 2021 champions New Zealand, as the two teams will cross swords for three fixtures.

Speaking of West Indies’ international calendar, they will be travelling to Bangladesh next for a multi-format series, comprising three One-Day Internationals in Mirpur and as many T20Is, all set to be played in Chattogram. The first ODI will be played on October 18 at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, a venue that recently underwent renovation and infrastructural developments.
