Fans who turned up at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow to witness the fourth T20I between India and South Africa on December 17 finally received some relief after a disappointing evening. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has announced a full refund of ticket prices following the abandonment of the match due to persistent fog, which made playing conditions unsafe.

The IND vs SA fourth T20I was scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, but a thick layer of fog covered the stadium soon after sunset, severely affecting visibility. Match officials conducted six inspections in an attempt to salvage the game. However, with conditions failing to improve, the contest was officially called off at 9:30 PM. The washout also triggered criticism from fans and experts, who questioned the scheduling of a night match in North India during peak winter fog conditions.

In reply to the abandonment, UPCA confirmed that spectators would receive a full refund irrespective of whether tickets were purchased online or offline. UPCA secretary Prem Manohar Gupta, in an official release, assured fans that the refund process would be hassle-free.

Ticket amount will be credited back to the original mode of payment

For spectators who booked tickets online, the refund process is straightforward. The ticket amount will be credited back to the original mode of payment, including debit cards, credit cards, or UPI platforms. Gupta stated that refund-related notifications would be sent to the registered email addresses, and ticket holders have been advised to regularly monitor their inboxes for updates.

Offline ticket holders, however, are required to follow a verification-based process. Refunds for offline purchases will be issued at the box office located at Gate No. 2 of the Ekana Stadium. The counters will remain open on December 20, 21, and 22, between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

To claim the refund, spectators must be physically present and carry their original physical tickets along with a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID for verification. Additionally, ticket holders will need to provide their bank account details and fill out a refund form available at the counter. The original tickets must be submitted along with the completed form. UPCA clarified that refunds will be processed only after successful verification of all documents and details, following which the amount will be credited directly to the respective bank accounts.
