South Africa’s batting coach Ashwell Prince has likened Quinton de Kock‘s presence in the Proteas dressing room with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for india. de Kock recently reversed his ODI retirement and emerged as the leading run-getter in the three-match series against Pakistan in his first series upon return.

Prince highlighted that having the left-hander in the dressing room boosted the morale of the entire team. He also pointed out that the other southpaws in the team have a perfect chance of learning from an experienced individual.

“He’s big, he’s massive. With Rohit and Virat coming to the Indian team, I think Quinny probably has a similar effect coming into our team with his experience, with his quality that we saw in Pakistan. His presence definitely boosted the dressing room and we got quite a few young left-handers and just quite a few young players in the team. For them to sit around and have a few conversations with him and also be out with him in the middle and bat with him, I think that does a lot for their growth. He is a big influence for us,” stated Prince, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Prince, a top-order batter in his playing days, mentioned how the management has had conversations with Marco Jansen to adapt to a more attacking role considering his batting position in the team.

“I think what’s important for Marco is clarity about how he bats. When you’re batting at No. 8, No. 9, generally you don’t have a lot of partners. So for him, once he gets in, he needs to score quickly, because he’s only got one or two partners to come. Playing an aggressive role is something that we discussed,” he added.

South Africa are coming off a Test series win against India. Jansen secured the Player of the Match award in the second Test in Guwahati for his all-round outing, as the Proteas emerged victorious by 408 runs to seal the series.

Speaking of the Indian camp, Rohit and Kohli will be the key members to look out for. They last featured in the three-match ODI series played in Australia.

The first ODI of the three-match series will be played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on November 30.
