The Indian team were in a battle of wits after losing their top three batters inside the first ten overs of the match in Indore. Their misery was compounded when influential Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed by Nathan Lyon just after surviving a close LBW call.

The surface in Indore has already started playing its tricks, as the ball is not only turning square but is also keeping low every now and then. India were in a pickle after losing Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara in the first 45 mins of the match. But the arrival of one of India’s star performers in the series, Ravindra Jadaja, was greeted with huge cheers from the fans.

The southpaw was caught plumb in from of the wicket by Nathan Lyon but Jadeja reviewed it straightway and the replay showed a clear spike when the ball passed the bat. However, the Indian ace could not make use of his opportunity as he succumbed on the very next delivery, handing a strait forward catch to Matthew Kuhnemann.

Another wicket from Lyon!

India’s condition worsened as Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Kuhnemann after the ball kissed the Indian batter’s off stump, dislodging one of the bails. The Australian bowlers are all over the hosts at the moment, especially the spinners who are not letting a moment’s peace to the Indian batters.

The visitors are in the ascendency after dismissing half the Indian side in the first session and are looking likely to restrict the hosts to a modest total in their first innings. India’s hopes of a decent total in the first innings are pinned on the lower-order batters as the ball is keeping low on a treacherous surface at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
