How did Day 2 of the Only Test go between India vs Afghanistan? — Review, Turning Points & more

Resuming Day 2 at an imposing 368/3, India pushed their first-innings total to a massive 564/8 before declaring, completely dominating Afghanistan bowling attack. By Stumps on Sunday, June 7, Afghanistan’s batting line-up crumbled under pressure, ending the day at 113/5 in 39.5 overs, still trailing India by a mammoth 451 runs.

Overnight centurion and skipper Shubman Gill could only add 23 runs to his score before falling for 126 to right-arm quick Mohammad Saleem Safi, who bowled his heart out to finish with impressive figures of 6/140. Rishabh Pant, who started the day on 50*, missed out on a well-deserved century, dismissed by Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi for 81. After a brief cameo from Dhruv Jurel (19), Washington Sundar anchor-rolled the lower order with a gritty, unbeaten 52. Quickfire contributions from debutant Manav Suthar (28) and Mohammed Siraj (22) allowed India to declare comfortably past the 550-run mark.

When Afghanistan walked out to bat, the Indian bowling attack struck almost immediately. Pacers Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj set the tone, but it was young left-arm spinner Manav Suthar who ripped through the Afghan top-order on a wearing Mullanpur track. Suthar finished the day with clinical figures of 3/21 in 15.5 overs. While Rahmat Shah fought a lonely battle with a resilient, unbeaten 43, wickets kept tumbling at the other end.
