The third and final T20I of the ongoing series between India and Afghanistan will be held at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With Bengaluru residents and law enforcement authorities aware of jam-packed traffic in rush hours in the garden city, the local traffic police has taken into account the increased traffic in the area ahead of the T20 match between the Asian giants on Wednesday, January 17.

To prepare better for traffic management at roads surrounding the venue, the Bengaluru (East) Traffic Police authorities have issued an advisory for people using the road to watch the game, or for their daily commute. The authorities have advised to use alternate routes, which helps in avoiding congestion during peak hours.

The advisory, as shared on the official social media handle of the concerned authority, reads, “In view of 3rd T-20 International Cricket match on 17/01/2024 from 2.00pm to 11.30pm at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, traffic arrangements have been made to ensure smooth flow of traffic.”

According to the advisory, it has been clarified that parking vehicles of any kind has been restricted at roads surrounding the venue — Cubbon Rd, Queens Rd, Vittal Malya Rd, Raj Bhavan Rd, Central St. Rd., Nrupathunga Rd, Museum Rd, Kasturiba Rd, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Rd (near Vidhana Soudha), and Lavelle Rd.

Meanwhile, special arrangements for “Pay & Park” facility has also been provided as an alternative by the traffic police authority to manage safekeeping of vehicles, considering limited parking space available at the venue. The spots identified for parking are — Kings Road, UB City Mall’s parking lot, and BMTC Bus Stand in Shivajinagar (1st floor).

The capacity at Chinnaswamy is close to 35,000, and the game is expected to be a full-house show, with local star Virat Kohli playing an international game at the venue after many years. Thus, the traffic police have come up with a gazetted notification in public interest related to travel, parking, commute and other necessary pointers to keep in mind while attending the game.

In order to avoid parking hassle, it is the best suitable option to use public transport. The most preferred transport mode, though, should be using Namma Bengaluru Metro, which has a stop at Purple Line’s Cubbon Park Metro Station, allowing direct opening to the venue from Gate B. To avoid smooth flow of public, the metro timings may be adjusted over and above the actual time, which ends around 11.30 pm IST.
