India A registered a two-wicket victory over Australia A in the third unofficial ODI of the series at the Green Park in Kanpur on Sunday, October 5. With this, the hosts clinched the series by a 2-1 margin after getting defeated in the previous encounter at the same venue by nine wickets (DLS),

Opting to bat first, Australia A found themselves in quite some trouble with their first four wickets falling with just 44 on the board as Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana grabbed a couple of wickets each. Lachlan Shaw combined with Cooper Connolly to take the team score past the 100-run mark. However, Lachlan was dismissed on the final ball of the 18th over.

Connolly’s brisk 64 off 49 came to an end three overs later before Liam Scott and skipper Jack Edwards joined hands superbly to register a 152-run stand. The partnership was broken when Scott was dismissed for 73 off 64. His innings comprised one four and six sixes.

Edwards fell 11 short of his ton to grant Arshdeep his third wicket. The last-wicket pair batted for a little more than four overs before Harshit cleaned up Tanveer Sangha (12 off 19). Vipraj Nigam proved expensive, conceding 60 runs in his six overs while Ayush Badoni contributed with a couple of wickets, conceding only 31 runs in as many overs.

The run-chase got off to a positive start with Prabhsimran Singh assuming the role of an aggressor. By the time his opening partner Abhishek Sharma (22 off 25) was dismissed by Todd Murphy, India A had raced to 83 in 11.2 overs. Murphy struck for the second time in two overs, this time to get rid of Tilak Varma for 3 off 6. However, Prabhsimran continued on his merry way from his end and reached a ton in no time. He was eventually dismissed in the 20th over after scoring 102 off 68.

After Prabhsimran’s dismissal, Riyan Parag joined captain Shreyas Iyer at the crease as the two built a sizeable partnership and smartly manoeuvred the ball into gaps to rotate the strike efficiently. However, the fall of their wickets (both scored 62) brought about a mini-collapse. Nonetheless, Vipraj maintained his composure in his 32-ball 24 to take India A over the line.
