‘I’m thrilled to welcome our New York franchise to the MI Family’ - Nita Ambani announces ownership of MLC team

Reliance Industries Limited, on Sunday, announced the proposed addition of a fifth cricket franchise to the Mumbai Indians (MI) family. MI will run the New York franchise of the United States of America’s Major League Cricket (MLC). The New York team will participate in the inaugural edition of the MLC which will begin on July 13 this year.

The Reliance Group-owned franchise will now have a cricket franchise in three different continents, four different countries, and five different leagues. Apart from IPL and MLC, the other franchises owned by Mumbai Indians are MI Cape Town in the SA20 league, MI Emirates in the International T20 League (ILT20), and Mumbai Indians Women in the Women’s Premier League.

According to a release by the Mumbai Indians franchise, the team will be subject to the completion of customary due diligence; negotiation, and execution of definitive binding agreements, and receipt of required corporate, regulatory, and third-party approvals and compliances.

The Director of Reliance Industries and owner of the Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians, Nita Ambani has expressed her excitement to make an addition to the MI family. She said that the franchise will look to establish Mumbai Indians as a global brand of fearless cricket while taking part in the first-ever T20 League of America.

“I am thrilled to welcome our New York franchise to the growing MI Family! With our entry into the first cricket league in the US, I hope we are able to establish Mumbai Indians as a global brand of fearless and entertaining cricket! This is another new beginning for MI and I look forward to the exciting journey ahead,” said Nita Ambani.

Meanwhile, there are other IPL franchises that have invested or partnered with the MLC teams. They are Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, and Chennai Super kings. Kolkata Knight Riders had taken charge of the Los Angeles franchise, Delhi Capitals will partner with Seattle Orcas and the Chennai Super Kings franchise has acquired the Texas franchise.
