West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein has called out football legend Cristiano Ronaldo to send his private jet to rescue him after being stranded in India for more than five days.
The Caribbean outfit played their last T20 World Cup game on Sunday, March 1 against hosts India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata where they suffered a five-wicket defeat. However, due to tensions in the Gulf region, travel across the world has taken a major hit which means that the West Indies side are unable to get back home.
In frustration, Hosein took to social media and cheekily asked Ronaldo to send his jet to take them back.
“At this point, I’m better off asking Cristiano [Ronaldo] to send the [jet] and come rescue me, yes,” posted Hosein on X (formerly Twitter).
This comes after rumours which suggested that the Portugal player took his private jet to Spain amid the certain times in Saudi Arabia, where he plays his club football for Riyadh-based side Al-Nassr. The club, however, reported that the forward has sustained a hamstring injury and even shared photos of him in his training gear on March 3.
Hosein, meanwhile, will want a few days of rest in the Caribbean before returning to India to represent the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
Darren Sammy shares his frustration on X
Former West Indies captain-turned-coach Darren Sammy has also taken to X to share disappointment of being stuck in India for days after the conclusion of their T20 World Cup campaign.
The former T20 World Cup-winning captain stated that it has been six days since they have been stranded in India and is hoping that they can leave soon as they near a full week of frustration.
I really hope it’s the day the joy comes https://t.co/ApZKwu3VOE

Cricket West Indies (CWI) did put out a statement on the ongoing struggles to get their team back to North America.
“CWI has remained in constant dialogue with the players, team management, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) since their last match against India. While the situation remains complex and fluid due to international airspace restrictions arising from security concerns in the Gulf region, CWI assures the public that every precaution is being taken to ensure the safe return of the team to the Caribbean,” read the statement.
