‘I would love to finish off late in my career with a trophy’ – David Miller on winning World Cup as late-career goal

South African batter David Miller has set his sights on winning a World Cup trophy as a major goal in the final phase of his career. Miller, who has played 178 ODI matches and averages 42.30 with a strike rate of 103.68, spoke about his ambitions ahead of the tournament scheduled for October-November 2027.

Miller discussed his World Cup aspirations in an interview with JioStar, where he reflected on his career achievements and future objectives. The 37-year-old has already made significant contributions in World Cup history, including a century in the 2023 semi-final against Australia at Eden Gardens, where he scored 101 runs.

“Yeah, I am really looking forward to it. For me, it’s a goal that I want to achieve. I would love to finish off late in my career with a trophy. So, for me, it’s a goal that I would love to be a part of that World Cup team,” Miller said to JioStar.

“It’s something that is never guaranteed, and I’ll definitely, from now until then, be focused on aiming to make that team and to contribute the best I can. Obviously, it will be very special, being at home in front of our fans, and in a place that I’ve played for so many years. So, it would be fantastic to be a part of that team,” he added.

The tournament will be hosted across eight cities in South Africa, three in Zimbabwe and Namibia’s capital Windhoek, creating a unique setting for the competition. Miller’s emphasis on playing in front of home fans reflects the significance of the event’s location for South African cricketers.
