After a wait of 16 years, Royal Challengers Bangalore have managed to win their maiden trophy in history. They defeated Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) finals to bag the prestigious trophy. Notably, batting first, Delhi struggled throughout, having posted just 113 runs on the board. However, their bowlers put on a strong show during the chase, as the fate of the match was decided in the final over of the game.

Meanwhile, after the win, RCB’s wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh opened up on their sensational win and gave credit to star Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry for keeping her calm during the run chase. Notably, skipper Smriti Mandhana got out at an important juncture, which put pressure on RCB. However, Richa played in an aggressive manner and made 17* runs to keep RCB in the hunt.

Perry, on the other hand, once again played a vital role and helped RCB win. She did the same in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians and in the final, she scored 35* runs, which was massive in context to RCB’s win. Meanwhile, Richa mentioned that she felt like a long gap between the eliminator and the final. She added that even though the target was less, they couldn’t relax one bit.

“I was a bit nervous, but Perry calmed down and told me to go for my shots if the ball was there to be hit. It felt like a long time (between the Eliminator and the final), but we had prepared a lot and worked hard. By god’s grace, we won. We just wanted to bowl wicket-to-wicket, a couple of wickets and we knew we could chase the score down. The game does get close when the target is low, you can’t relax one bit,” Richa was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz after the match.
