Prabhsimran Singh has expressed his delight after being named in the India squad ahead of their tour to Zimbabwe later this month. India are set to travel to the south of Africa for a three-match series commencing on July 23.

Prabhsimran revealed that he was working out in the gym when he first learned about his selection for the Indian side. The wicketkeeper-batter also looked back at the time he was first selected in an international setup during the previous Asian Games.

“I was in the gym when I got the call. I left immediately, went home and told everyone. It felt really special. Representing India has always been my dream. It was a completely different feeling,” Prabhsimran said to the press.

“It was my first Asian Games, and cricket was being played there for the first time as well. It felt great to be part of the Indian dressing room. I didn’t get a chance to play, but just being there and experiencing that environment was very special,” he added.

Despite not getting a game for India during the Asian Games, Prabhsimran is determined to make full use of this second opportunity that he has got and just work hard without worrying about the actual outcome.

“My dream has always been to represent India. Whenever I get an opportunity, I want to make full use of it and establish myself. Every player has to work hard. If you do that sincerely, the rest will take care of itself,” he said.
Prabhsimran has been impressive in recent seasons in the Indian Premier League. Representing the Punjab Kings, he scored 510 runs from 14 matches at a strike-rate of 168.87, whilst averaging in the high 40s.
