Harry Brook is touted as one of the brightest prospects in world cricket and he has already shown glimpses of the same during his Test and T20I career. However, the youngster is still coming to terms with the ODI format.

Brook made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. He played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad but failed to impress apart from a century against Kolkata Knight Riders. On either side of that knock, Brook had low scores and he was released last month by Hyderabad, who freed up INR 13.25 crore from their purse with that move. The right-handed batter is currently playing the three-match ODI series between England and the West Indies. Ahead of the second ODI, the talented youngster spoke about a controversial comment he made during one of his interviews during the IPL.

After scoring his IPL century, Brook said, “There are a lot of Indian fans out there who’ll say well done tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up.” The 24-year-old termed himself as an “idiot” for making the comment.

“I was an idiot and I said that stupid thing in an interview which I regret a little bit. In India, you end up sitting in your hotel room, not much to do so I find myself just scrolling Instagram or Twitter or whatever and come across stuff you just don’t want to see,” Brook was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

The Keighley-born said that he doesn’t spend time on his social media handles anymore and has given responsibility to his management team to operate them on his behalf.

“I thought it was the right idea to get off it. I’ve obviously still got Instagram and Twitter but thankfully I’ve got someone running it for me,” Brook mentioned.

Brook did not have a great ODI World Cup 2023 campaign but he started the series against the West Indies on a positive note. He top-scored with a 72-ball 71 in the first ODI to help England finish on 325 in the first innings. However, the hosts chased it down with four wickets and seven balls to spare. The second ODI takes place in Antigua on Wednesday, December 6.
