‘I want India to be the powerhouse of world cricket’ – Rohit Sharma shares huge aspirations for the nation before MI vs RR

'I want India to be the powerhouse of world cricket' - Rohit Sharma shares huge aspirations for the nation before MI vs RR

Rohit Sharma shared his dream of one day seeing India become the biggest cricketing nation across formats and levels of the game.

India have been dominant across multiple ICC tournaments in recent times. These include the Men’s, Women’s and the U19 squads representing the nation on the world stage.

Rohit wants India to continue its extraordinary record in world tournaments and one day become the leading country in cricket, just as Australia was portrayed in the early 21st century.

“I want India to be the powerhouse of world cricket…that is the bottom line as I want India to be the best and cricket is right up there. What we have done in the last three years has been superb to watch. From the 2024 World Cup, Women’s World Cup, U19 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and another T20 World Cup. I hope we continue our winning streak,” Rohit Sharma said during the Mumbai Indians’ ESA Day initiative.

It is worth mentioning that Rohit is widely regarded as one of India’s best captains in recent times, with his contribution being extremely important in helping set up a cricketing dynasty across the world. The right-handed batter guided the Men in Blue to the 2024 T20 World Cup title in the Caribbean before leading them to the 2025 Champions Trophy win.

Following the success of the Men’s side, India Women went on to win their maiden World Cup on home soil in November 2025, before India’s U19 side won the World Cup in Zimbabwe, beating England in the final.

The Women’s side are up next on the grand stage, with the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup set to commence from June 12 in England. The Women in Blue have been drawn alongside Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Netherlands and South Africa. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side play their first game of the tournament against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, June 14, at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
