I request the media to support athletes: Deepak Chahar

Star India pacer Deepak put in a request to the media persons to support athletes. The 31-year-old told the journalists to not “put down” an athlete when they are young while speaking at the TNSJA (Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists’ Association) Annual Awards & Scholarships.

The right-armer made his international debut in the T20I format against England in July 2018 in Bristol. He has so far claimed 31 wickets in 25 T20Is at an average of 24.09. Meanwhile, having played his first ODI match in September 2018 against Afghanistan, he has picked up 16 wickets in 13 games thus far.

“Seeing Media journalists supporting athletes is very different for me… I request the media to support athletes. Athletes shouldn’t be put down when they are young,” Chahar said.

Deepak Chahar gears up for IPL 2024

Chahar is now gearing up to play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. CSK, led by MS Dhoni will kickstart their 2024 IPL campaign against three-time finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The 31-year-old made his IPL debut in the 2016 season and has so far played 73 matches donning the yellow shirt and picked up 72 wickets at an average of 28.04 and an economy rate of 7.93, including two four-wicket hauls. The right-arm medium pacer had a breakthrough season in the 2018 IPL where he bagged 10 wickets in 12 matches and subsequently earned the India call-up in limited-overs cricket.
