‘I hardly had four hours of sleep and I am here’ – Shreyas Iyer ahead of IPL 2025 final

Shreyas Iyer admitted ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final that he has only slept for four hours after helping Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2.

The PBKS captain played a magnificent knock against MI, scoring an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His knock orchestrated a five-wicket win for PBKS, as they chased down a 204-run target in 19 overs with five wickets to spare.

The IPL 2025 final is going to be contested between PBKS and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Both teams have not won the IPL title yet. However, one of them will be able to end the jinx at the end of the final.

“I couldn’t sleep. I hardly had four hours of sleep and I am here. I went to my room. And then next thing I know, I am here doing the PC,” Shreyas said at the pre-match press conference on Monday, June 2 (via Times of India).

Shreyas rated his knock against MI as the best he has ever played in the IPL. “Top most knock I have played in the IPL,” the Mumbai batter said on Monday.

How has Shreyas Iyer fared in IPL 2025?

The 30-year-old has played 16 matches and amassed 603 runs at an average of 54.82 and a strike rate of 175.81. Shreyas has notched up six half-centuries so far in the 18th edition of the tournament. He has been a six-hitting machine this season, slamming 39 maximums, only one fewer than Nicholas Pooran, who is at the top of the charts.

PBKS and RCB have faced each other on three occasions this season. Rajat Patidar’s men have had the upper-hand, emerging victorious in two games, including the comprehensive eight-wicket triumph against Shreyas and Co. in Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur.
