Kent’s opening batter, Ben Compton, landed a brand-new three-year deal with the club. The left-handed top-order batter, who as of June 30 is the leading run-scorer in Division Two of the ongoing County Championship, will now be staying with Kent until 2028.

Compton has scored 5,704 runs in the First-Class circuit in 74 matches at an exemplary average of 45.26. As far as his List A record is concerned, he has registered 1,143 runs in 26 games with an almost-similar average of 45.72.

He has scored more than 4,700 of the aforementioned tally of runs for Kent across formats. Compton expressed gratitude and excitement on having had the opportunity to represent the club for the years to come.

“Kent has become my home and I’m delighted to further my playing career here. The current landscape provides an opportunity for us as a team to strive and push ourselves beyond, towards seeing this prestigious and historic club return to its former heights. I’m excited and fully driven to be a part of that journey,” stated Compton, as quoted by the club’s website.

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Simon Cook, praised Compton’s prowess with the bat and was pleased that the prolific batter had made a decision of carrying on representing Kent.

Compo is an outstanding opening batter and a key part of our squad – his records stand up against any in the country and his ability to bat under pressure and play the game his own way has made him the anchor of an innings on so many occasions for us. I’m delighted that he has chosen to stay at Kent for the foreseeable future, as we look to build a playing squad that can compete across all formats,” remarked Cook.

Kent are currently in the midst of playing their Division Two encounter against Northamptonshire at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. They are 325/4 at Stumps on Day 1. Compton scored 66 off 145 in an innings which contained six fours.
