Digvesh Singh Rathi has been in headlines in the IPL 2025 for his celebration after taking wickets. The Lucknow Super Giants’ bowler was handed a fine of 25% and 50% of the match fees for his celebration against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, respectively. Simon Doull gave his opinion on Digvesh’s celebration and penalty while speaking after the match between LSG and KKR on Tuesday.

As the leg-spinner toned down his celebration a bit after dismissing Sunil Narine, former Kiwi cricketer claimed that LSG’s management pays Digvesh’s penalty. He further claimed to love celebrations and felt that the bowler had done nothing wrong to invite fines. He claimed to have seen bigger Indian players getting away with penalties despite doing way aggressive celebrations.

“The team have got to be paying that (the fines). I don’t like it. I love the celebrations, I don’t think he has done anything at all wrong. I’ve seen senior Indian players do way worse, be in your face, and not get a fine. They are making an example outof a young man who is what, making a note in his notebook?” Doull opined via Cricbuzz.

He did it on a friendly note – Teammate Shahbaz Ahmed

Rathi’s notebook celebrations seem to be inspired by the West Indian pacer Kesrick Williams, who famously had a face-off with Virat Kohli for his old send-off. The mystery spinner brought his celebration for the first time in the IPL after getting rid of the PBKS batter and his friend Priyansh Arya, which led to his first penalty.

In the match against MI, the leggie dismissed Naman Dhir and enjoyed with a similar celebration. Shahbaz Ahmed, Digvesh’s LSG teammate, spoke about it and confirmed the spinner to have friendly given a farewell to Priyansh. He hoped his teammate to tone down his celebration in the upcoming matches to avoid serious consequences.

“Priyansh Arya (who Digvesh dismissed to bring out the celebration for the first time) is his very good friend. He did it on a friendly note, but since he is on the verge of suspension, I hope he doesn’t repeat it,” Shahbaz had said after the incident.
