‘I don’t see him really struggle’ – Ambati Rayudu confident of Shreyas Iyer’s turnaround in England after Ireland series drubbing

While India’s newly appointed captain Shreyas Iyer had a nightmarish start to his captaincy career as the visiting side faced a shambolic 0-2 whitewash against Ireland in the two-match T20I series. The next challenge for Iyer will be leading the side against an even better side for the five-match T20I series against England, and Ambati Rayudu believes that it is not going to be a challenging task.

Rayudu, the former middle-order batter, has shown confidence that despite the challenging task against the might of the Three Lions, Iyer will come off with flying colours. Rayudu attributed Iyer’s abilities to keeping things simple and opting for a calmer approach in situations of joys and sorrows.

“I think things will only get better. England will be a great challenge. And I am sure he will be up for it. Not only with his captaincy, but also his batting. The conditions will be far better than what they have encountered in Ireland. And he is a guy who always keeps things very, very simple. And he doesn’t get too high or too low when it comes to wins or losses,” Rayudu responded to CricTracker’s query in a session arranged by Sony Sports Network.

Furthermore, Rayudu also added that Iyer will not find it struggling to get going in the English conditions and that the side will eventually transition with a positive approach. He has also shown confidence in saying that a turnaround is certainly on cards for the Men in Blue in their upcoming assignment against the Harry Brook-led side.

I don’t see him really struggle as such. It will be a very, very natural and a good transition into the England series. And he is someone who can handle it with a lot of grace. And he will go about his things normally. And I am sure his team will turn things around in the England series,” the former India cricketer concluded.

The first T20I of the five-match assignment between India and England will get underway on Wednesday, July 01, at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
