I don’t feel the pressure of being a captain, taking one game at a time: Rajat Patidar

I don't feel the pressure of being a captain, taking one game at a time: Rajat Patidar

As Royal Challengers Bengaluru prepare to take on Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 13, captain Rajat Patidar addressed the media ahead of the fixture, where RCB will don their special green jersey, an annual tradition to raise awareness towards the environment, in line with their status as a carbon-neutral team.

Speaking on his approach to captaincy, Patidar stated that he is trying to focus on his strengths and not taking any burden due to the leadership responsibility. Patidar’s transition to captaincy has been smooth and he has impressed on early evidence, winning three of the five games he has skippered so far.

“I see myself as captain when I’m on the field, but when I’m batting, I don’t feel the pressure of being a captain. I focus on my strengths with the bat and avoid feeling like I have to do something different just because I am leading the team. Even in domestic cricket, I try to stay in the moment and do my best for the team,” Patidar told reporters on the eve of the clash against Rajasthan Royals.

While RCB are yet to crack the code of winning home games, they have defeated Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in away encounters to secure six points. RCB’s two losses – against Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals – have come at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Asked to comment on the venue, Patidar said that team’s aim is to play to the best of its potential and that he is not concerned about where his men come out to play.

“We take it one game at a time. If everyone is confident, we look to make the most of it. We’ll focus on playing good cricket, not focus on which venue it is. It’s a special game for us with our green initiative, and wearing the green jersey makes it even more special and exciting.”

RCB are currently placed fifth in the points table while Rajasthan Royals are seventh with two wins and three losses in five fixtures.
