‘I called Rashid Khan and said ‘we need to do something” – Sharafuddin Ashraf on plight during Afghanistan flood

Afghanistan spinner Sharafuddin Ashraf shared his way of contributing to the flood-ridden nation. The floods followed the severe earthquakes that shook the country several months ago. Ashraf revealed that a combined effort was made from his side after the floods hit. He also revealed that aid in the form of food and water was provided to almost 300 people in need.

“As national players, we always want to help our people because what we are [is] because of them. Whenever they need us, we will always be there to assist. After playing the last game in the National T20 Cup, I returned home and learned that people were suffering due to the floods. I called Rashid Khan and told him we had to do something for them,” Ashraf said in an exclusive chat with CricTracker.

“The flood caused many children to go missing, and many people were left hungry. So, we decided to quickly arrange aid for those affected. The next day, I went there with Zahir Khan and Yamin Ahmadzai to provide food and water to everyone. When we arrived, we managed to give lunch and dinner to around 300 people,” he added.

Afghanistan aim high at the T20 World Cup 2024

Afghanistan will contest in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled in the United States of America and the West Indies from June 2. They have become a force to reckon in T20s as the likes of Rashid Khan, Rahamnullah Gurbaz, and Mohammad Nabi get featured in competitive T20 leagues around the world including IPL. They will begin their T20 World Cup journey with their first game against Uganda on June 4.
