In an unexpected turn of events, the legendary fast bowler and renowned commentator, known for his brutal pace and swing bowling, Wasim Akram, shared a comical incident involving security checks at Perth’s Optus Stadium during the ongoing Test match between Australia and Pakistan.

Seated alongside former England captain Michael Vaughan during the lively commentary of the first Test, Akram lightened the mood by narrating an amusing incident with a security official. He revealed that he had to show his ID card twice during the routine checkup, adding an unexpected twist to his matchday experience.

“He (security official) said, ‘Show me your card,’ and I did. He said, ‘No, show it again, I haven’t seen your picture,’ so I said, ‘Here you go, buddy’ (smiles).” Akram recounted, injecting a cheerful touch into the ongoing match commentary.

This incident unfolded on the second day of the Test as Australia, resuming at 346/5, witnessed Mitchell Marsh’s impactful innings, propelling them close to the 500-run mark. Despite Marsh’s contribution, Pakistan managed to strike early in the second session, dismissing Australia for 487, with Marsh falling short of a century at 90. The substantial total poses a significant challenge for Pakistan’s batting lineup.

Earlier, opting to bat first in the first game of the Test series, the Australian team made a strong start, with openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja (41) laying a solid foundation with a 126-run partnership. Warner continued to build partnerships, eventually accumulating 164 runs with Steve Smith (31) and Travis Head (40). Marsh’s crucial knock of 90 played a pivotal role in Australia reaching a total of 487 in 113.2 overs. Debutant all-rounder Aamer Jamal bowled an impressive marathon spell, claiming a remarkable six-wicket haul.

As Pakistan began their batting innings, openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq made a promising start, putting up 74 runs for the first wicket. Shafique was dismissed by Nathan Lyon after scoring 42, and captain Shan Masood joined Imam on the crease. Despite Masood’s positive start, he fell to a wide delivery from Mitchell Starc towards the end of the day’s play. At the close of day two, Pakistan stood at 132 for two.
